This past weekend we went to Kampala for a weekend ‘holiday’. We arrived on Friday and I was able to eat an amazing beef stew with rice at Matoke Inn! Then I was able to stay with our Short-Term Coordinator of the Central Region, Cassandra’s home. When I walked into her apartment, the power wasn’t on, so she had a lot of candles lit and it just felt so homey!! Again what a difference the atmosphere can have on our attitudes and moods! We hung out had some actual Lays chips and tea and then headed to bed, the travel from Tororo to Kampala is SO exhausting! I then was able to chat with Pam, Robin, Lee-Normans, Sarah, and Amanda for a couple hours! I LOVE skype!!!
We went to a place called Sseko shoes, banana boat (I think of it as the African version of pottery barn), I ate a delicious burger, we went to a more western church, and stocked up on good food to take back to Tororo!! Kampala, is the capitol city of Uganda, is VERY busy!! We took boda bodas the whole time we were there. Which is a bit more expensive but ALOT faster than riding in a taxi because the bodas can just go around everyone else! I even rode on one with a suitcase and my large backpack on my back, I was proud of myself! I really wanted to take a video during my boda ride so you can all see how crazy the ride can be. I definitely pray every time I get on one!
It was a great weekend of relaxing and refreshment for my mind and spirit. I never realize how drained I am until I relax. We ended our time by watching Home Alone 2 with microwave popcorn!! I am so thankful for a place to escape to where it feels a bit like home!!
Leah, You are such an inspiration to me. You are following the command of the Great Commision, carrying the love of Christ to the world. Money is one thing; but self, that's another!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! May peace surround you this day! Love, Lisa Meier
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were able to have those times of relaxation. I would love to see video of a boda boda ride, but please be careful getting the footage! :)
